She looks cute, and I like her first outfit, I just hope she doesn't turn into another Dakota FANNING type *shudders*

I think she's going to pull a Rachel Hurd-Wood. Rachel, in my opinion, started out as not so pretty but cute, and then just blossomed into this gorgeous girl. I think that's what's going to happen to Dakota. You can tell just by the pictures now, even. She looks a lot prettier in the Golden Compass NY premiere pictures (one of which is the very first picture in this post where she's wearing the red ribbon) than she did in the on-set Golden Compass interviews.
I also think how she's wearing her hair, and what her makeup looks like, very heavily affects how she looks. She looks a lot better with her hair down, in my opinion. It balances out her face more.

yeah she is skinny.
Laura, Emma was kinda like that too. When she was younger, she was cute but not stunning. Look at her now!

Not yet. I'm dying to, though. yeah she is skinny. Laura, Emma was kinda like that too. When she was younger, she was cute but not stunning. Look at her now! Really? I always thought Emma was downright adorable as a kid. Dakota and Rachel have been called ugly (I will NEVER understand why people pick on little kids) when they were young (Emma seemed to get that around the CoS junket time, but not when she first came out) by stupid people, but Rachel grew up to be gorgeous, so I bet that Dakota will be too. You can see it in the Golden Compass NY premiere pictures (the one with the red ribbon) as opposed to what she looks like in the film itself. I can't wait to see what she'll look like three, four years from now.

Speaking from experience, it gets quite hard doing more than one person. It's up to you, but it's time consuming and frustrating, especially when they all go to a lot of events.

Aww she's cute! (And yes Laura, picking on kids is BAD BAD BAD.) I'm glad they went with an unknown for the movie.
I just wish Dakota wasn't her name because there's already a young female movie prodigy with that name. Lyra, however, is a f!cking awesome name imo, so at least she has that going for her.

She should so change her name to Lyra. Not only would it be a homage and thank you to her first ever acting job, but no one else has it and whenever someone talks about "Dakota," people won't say, "Who? Fanning?"

How did a British girl get the name Dakota?? Is my only question.

I think that was her first public appearance (I don't count interviews as public appearances.) At first I thought she was at a costume party (it looks like the poofy, princessy dress sold as princess costumes) but then I saw that it was a screening or some sort of cast party for the Golden Compass. How did a British girl get the name Dakota?? Is my only question. I have no idea. It's originally a Native American name. Possibly her parents bought an international baby name book (I have one. Very useful.) and looked at all the different names and didn't really care where it was from, so long as they liked it. (Good strategy, I might add.)
