First promo. Harry and his copy of Advanced Potion Making and the Marauder's Map. I'm assuming his color scheme for this movie is purple.

I don't know how anxious I am for this film to come out. It seems like they're already cutting important parts of the book. Like they did with the last film. I like the romance and all, but really? This is about the buildup to the death of Dumbledore. About the hunt for the Horcruxes. Getting rid of the Gaunts is like ignoring the whole point of Riddle's bitterness. I remember they use to say "it's all about staying true to the books". Lies! While Rupert is cute, the whole Lavender and Quidditch thing is practically an afterthought compared to the pensieve bits.

BUT.... I do wanna see Hermione freak out and send canaries at him. And I wanna see Ron whisper her name from his hospital bed. Cuz that's just too sweet.

The canary thing will probably happen because it's funny, and as every cast member reminds us, HBP is going to be funny. Emma says it's a romantic comedy. (I really have no idea what book THEY'RE reading, but the book I read is dark and faintly comedic and all about Horcruxes, death, and betrayal.)

Word. The book they read was comprised of only certain chapters of what I read! Haha. Although, if they can manage to make Hermione less "defeated distraught female", I'd be happy. Crying all the time is unseemly. I think it'll be cool to see the cave scene! There's so much going on, Dumbledore screaming in pain and hallucinating, the Inferi. And they'd best not shy away from the sectumsempra scene. It's important to see Harry's fallibility, and that Snape actually is quite human.

If they can make Hermione actually HERMIONE, I'll be happy. I haven't seen Hermione in the films since CoS.
Don't get me wrong, I really don't blame Emma for this (much. She DOES have power with WB over how her character is presented, she's said so herself and so have other people.) I blame Alfonso Cuaron and the screenwriters for making Emma play herself in the films and not her character. It's so distracting from the film.

Umm. I see what your saying. I wonder if playing oneself allows for faster typecasting? Or restricted character range. Kind of like what happened to Robert Downey jr. and Johnny Depp for a tic. We can hardly tell if they're acting sometimes! Orrrr, maybe they're cast in these roles specifically because of their actual real life nature.

I mean, there's a difference between becoming your character and playing yourself. Look at Gary Oldman, for instance. He becomes every character he plays. He researches them (if they're historical/based on books/etc) and actually acts like them on AND off set; and he's very good at what he does.
Whereas, take someone like Jessica Simpson (no offense to her fans or anything) and.... Seriously. I see no difference between her offscreen and onscreen self. She's just herself. She hasn't made the character her own, she's just playing herself.
Now with Emma.... I'm not going to pass judgement on her acting as a whole until I at least see her in Ballet Shoes. Right now.... In SS and CoS, she just WAS Hermione. Then PoA came and all I saw was Emma. GoF... She had very few Hermione moments. OotP she had very few. There are times where she's completely herself in the films, and times where she's Hermione-like, and other times where there's no clear definition of WHO she is, she's just THERE. So I'm going to read Ballet Shoes first, get a feel for who Pauline is, and then watch the film and make my real judgement then.

Well that's a good idea. I can barely remember "how" the story was written. It's been a while. But Pauline's got some Emma in her. I kind of feel like she was going to get the part, no matter what her height. And really, it's kind of a similar tale. Young girl plucked out of obscurity, and you can guess the rest. I loved stories like that.
Now an actress who I think never had a chance to act like herself is Natalie Portman. I don't know how a kid can jump into such tough roles without distancing themselves from the intensity. But then, not everyone's that mature and thoughtful at 10 years old.
I really hope we see a new character out of Ballet Shoes. We need new young actresses. Real actresses. Not like any of the Jessicas or that lot.

Actresses/singers shouldn't exist. I really hate when actresses turn into singers and vice versa because they usually suck at what they turn into or, in some cases, suck at both. I really hope Emma doesn't go that route.

ahahahah! that's so true! Do you know the show "the Hills"? I foresee crappy singers and mediocre actresses coming out of that hot mess. yet I'm kind of addicted. I know it's not real, but it's so funny. I guess Emma once said that singing is her passion. I really hope she doesn't pull a Lohan on us.

Lots of things are my passion, but I'd never make a career out of them. I hope Emma sings for pleasure and not for profit because honestly, if you love something like singing that much, it feels much better to do it when you're not doing it for work.

^Well, Emma did said in an interview (check D.R.co.uk for article) that she is not launching a singing career, but she would love to do a musical or theater. So I guess we don't have to worry about that.

*huge sigh of relief*
I wouldn't mind her in a musical, but I don't want to see her have a music career. I just really don't like actor/singers - they start out as good in one area then they go to another and stretch themselves so thin that they suck at everything.
