I was doing a review for The Chronicles of Narnia for my friends at my xanga and that got me thinking: There should be a movie reviews thread at the Sassy boards. So here it is, lol. There ARE a few rules, of course.
1. GoF and other Harry Potter movies will be reviewed in time in their own threads. This is an Emma site and, seeing as how Emma plays Hermione, it's only fitting that she can have every topic on this board. This thread is strictly for non HP movies.
2. Remember, this thread can and will contain spoilers. No crying to me, the mods, or the admin that we ruined the movie for you. You took that risk coming in here.
3. If you're reviewing a movie with an R or higher rating (like Wedding Crashers, which I thought was excellent), or an unrated movie, please keep your review PG13 for our younger guests. We don't want to get in trouble by having a ten year old complaining that we're talking about sex and things on an Emma board. We HAVE threads for things like that (Got Wood and the Chatterbox), so USE THEM for that purpose.
And finally, though this isn't really a rule, please try to write more than "I thought it was good." I'm not saying it has to be as detailed as something an obsessive person like me would do, but I do want to know WHY you thought it was good or bad. And don't forget to tell us WHAT movie you're posting comments on, as this isn't like the GoF thread where we all know what you're talking about. Try to keep to recent movies, though that depends on what you call recent. I, for example, just got another Titanic tape after getting rid of my old one, so that's recent to me.
Have fun!

My review of The Chronicles of Narnia:
Well, I read the book the week before I saw it, so I had a pretty good idea of what was canon. And surprisingly, I found little to fault in Narnia. All that really bothered was that when Susan and Lucy were riding on Aslan, nothing moved. Their cloaks didn't move, their hair didn't move, their skirts didn't move, and yet they were supposed to be moving "faster than the swiftest horse."
I LOVE Susan. Anna Popplewell's eyes trip me out a bit, because they're so light, and they're the only thing that clues you into perhaps she's not really related to them. Skander Keyes's (Edmund) eyes are brown, as are Georgie Henley's (Lucy), and William Moseley's (Peter) are dark blue. So yeah. Not much else I could find fault for in Susan. Very mothering, being the oldest girl; and very sensible. "He's a beaver! He shouldn't be SAYING anything!"
Lucy was what worried me, because she's my favourite character next to Susan in the book, and she's actually the most developed character. And while Georgie Henley didn't do "the perfect Lucy" at all times, she came pretty damn close. I didn't even mind that in the books, she's blonde.
Skander was BLOODY FREAKING BRILLIANT as Edmund. Perfectly stupid, perfectly sarcastic, perfectly evil, perfectly jealous, perfectly everything! My only nag is that while William, Anna, and Georgie actually look like they could be related, Skander's hair is too dark and his face shape too different, but perhaps that's what they wanted for Edmund - someone who looked so different from his three "perfect" siblings.
And OMG, I'm IN BLOODY LOVE with William. As Peter, he nearly made me cry a dozen times from his protectiveness over Lucy. He carries Lucy on his back when following the beavers, and he grabs Lucy's hand, not Susan's, when they think they're being pursued by the White Witch. And when they nearly drown, Peter tells them both to hold on to him, but he only holds on to Lucy and expects Susan to be able to handle herself. It's obvious that Peter and Lucy are very close, but also that Anna and William have amazing chemistry. I was expecting an incest scene between the two any minute. Also, the way Peter reacts when the White Witch stabs Edmund is beautiful. He nearly made me cry.
Tilda Swindon, I will admit, was not how I pictured the White Witch. She says that she was absolutely against giving her character black hair because "it seems that all villians are given black hair." I had never pictured the White Witch with black hair. She was always described as very pale, so I naturally thought of platinum blonde hair for her. She's brilliant, Tilda is, she's absolutely frightening as the Witch, but I think she would've looked scarier if they had given her pale contact lenses because her eyes are too dark. I loved all the elaborate battle movements, but I did not love her dreads or the first few costumes she wore. The wand was awesome, though.
ASLAN. He is, without a doubt, my favourite non-human character, next to the centaur who charged with Peter. I really don't like his voice. I expected something very deep and booming. But his roar was awesome. I almost cried during his death scene, and then during his resurrection. It was an amazing moment, and I'm very glad that they left out the "exhilerating romp" because I don't think that it fits with that time in the story - the war's just started, Aslan's just risen from the dead, etc.
The special effects were amazing. I loved the wolves, and as I've said, Aslan was wonderful. The creatures were brilliant. The Witch's army scared the hell out of me and were completely disgusting, and Aslan/Peter's army was valiant and brave. I loved it. I give Narnia an A.

I actually haven't seen it. *giggle* I have all the Narnia books and have reread them a couple times, though, so I wanna see it when it comes to our cheap theater in a couple months. Hehe.
*is so unsurprised that Laura has found yet another man to obsess over* I did see that bit about Peter, yeah. Do you have any pics of him, I can't remember what he looks like...

Well the first picture is the most recent, and the last two were promos for Narnia. The last one is from the London premiere of Narnia.

lol, okay. *is still recovering from the shocker in the Chatterbox*
Oh, here are some of my movie reviews (they're actually of movies newly on DVD, cuz I hardly get to go to the theater):
CHRISTMAS WITH THE KRANKS: Kinda funny, kinda sucked. It sucked more, actually. THE POLAR EXPRESS: I dreaded seeing this movie, but it was actually okay. The visuals were very pretty despite being eerie. Could've done without all the corny "the spirit of Christmas lies in your heart" stuff though. THE DUKES OF HAZZARD: Um. Ehhh. I love Jessica Simpson (shut up, Laura), but she was hardly in it and when she was, she was being Sexy Brainless Daisy in every scene, using her body to get her cousins out of trouble. NOT A GOOD EXAMPLE. Plus, the Duke boys were dogs. *no offense to fans* CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY: The ONLY movie I truly enjoyed out of the bunch and recite lines from happily and regularly. Awesomeness. <3
So there's your Useless Nel Opinions bit, hope you're satiated. Stay tuned for more reviews! *hears groans*

I actually saw the Polar Express a year before it came out. Don't believe me? Not many people do. *taps head* Bit clairvoyant, don'tcha know. Thought it was a good movie. Then I saw it on the plane and I'm like, "Oooooh! I saw this!!!!" And everyone looks at me like I'm nuts. 'Twas funny.
