Please refer to here before asking something obvious. This will be continuously updated with new questions.
NOTE: Be sure to read the rules and the announcements as well as the FAQ if you have questions. If you can't find any of it there, we'll add it.
What is karma?
Karma is a way of showing that you like someone, basically. Pressing "exalt" ups karma while pressing "smite" takes it away. You can only karma once every hour.
How do I upload an avatar/signature?
Avatar: Go to Profile, click Modify Profile, and scroll down until you see an address bar with the words "Avatar URL" beside it. Paste the URL of your avatar there, and in the two spaces below it, put 100 in both - that's for the size. When you're finished, make sure to click Modify at the bottom.
Signature: Go to Profile, click Modify Profile, and scroll down until you see a big blank box. This is for your sig. You can only have a certain number of characters, so be careful. When you're done, click the Modify button at the bottom of the page.
How do I post images?
Put [/img] and put the url of your image inbetween. To upload images from your computer, I suggest going to www.supload.com or www.tinypic.com. Please do NOT hotlink (copy and paste a link directly from a website.) It eats up a site's bandwidth, which may cause the site to crash. (This is also in the Rules.)
How do I change my username?
Go to Profile, click Modify Profile, and in the first section, you will see a bar with the words "Display Name" next to it. Here, as long as it's appropriate, you can change your display name. NOTE: Changing your display name does NOT change your login name.
How do I quote posts?
There is a button above peoples' posts that says Quote. Click it.
How do I edit my posts?
There is a button above your posts and your posts only that says Modify. Click it.
What is spamming?
Spamming is when you double post something in the same thread, advertise a site or product in many threads, type "lol" in every thread, or can also pertain to posting many items in separate posts (such as on the eBay board) to increase your own number of posts. Not only is spamming annoying, but it will cause you to get yelled at.
How do you become a moderator?
Nel makes you one. At the time, we do not need any more mods.
How do I get a custom title (like "Hermione Granger" or "Fred Weasley") under my name?
Nel gives it to you. She has to know you really well because the name she gives you will fit your personality.
What do I do with a match if I don't know where to put it?
PM it to Nel. Please don't make an entire thread for it.
Why is it bad to up my post count?
It's not bad. Getting more posts is a good thing, it's just that some ways are not good to do. For example, posting in every thread even when you have nothing relevant to the topic at hand (example: going into a topic about people who own Chanel stuff just to say you don't any Chanel stuff. The topic was obviously intended to talk with people who do own something Chanel, not for people who don't) or going into an outfit thread to say "thanks" to the people posting matches when you aren't posting any yourself. Saying thanks is a good thing, but too many people saying thanks while not going out to find matches is a problem. Please make sure that if you want to up your post count, you do so honestly - posting matches and things relevant to the topic at hand.
Can I go back and post in old threads?
Of course you can. The only exception is the eBay thread. If the thread is more than a few days old, the item in question is most likely ended. Please don't post in that thread just to say "Aw man, the auction's ended!"
What do the stars mean when people put words between them?
*scratches head* <-- Like that? That's an action. You may not actually being doing that in real life, but it is an action to a response. However, *putting a phrase in stars* like that is not an action. That's just annoying. Please, if you want to use stars, learn how to use them. Don't phrase your words like an action if they're not actually an action. It gets very confusing.
How do I make a link?
To just put up a web address, you simply type the address, ie www.dresslikeemma.ws . But if you want to have a word be a link to something, type Click (but don't put any spaces.)
Why do my links stop halfway through?
They stop because Proboards cuts off links that are too long. I don't know why. Proboards is just weird like that. All you have to do, though, is copy and paste and take out the extra space and the link should work fine. Or you could avoid that by making a text link (see the instructions above.)
Why can't I access the Style/eBay boards?
Please refer to this thread.
What is a PM?
A PM is a Personal Message. It's like an email, but it's kept strictly on Proboards.
How do I PM someone?
Well, you can click that person's username to be taken to their profile and click the text link Send A Personal Message, OR you can click the little yellow and white box under their username without having to go to their profile.
How do stars change?
The more posts you make will eventually change your star count and member status. You start off as a new member with one star, and about fifty posts later, you receive another star and become a junior member. At around a hundred posts, you receive a third star and become a full member. At about 250 posts, you become a senior member and receive four stars. The final is god status, which needs about five hundred or so posts. Colored stars (blue/purple) are reserved for mods. (NOTE: If you want to increase your star count/member status, this is NOT an excuse to spam. Post honestly - finding matches, participating in discussions you can actually contribute to, etc.)
I clicked the delete button in the first post of my thread - why didn't the thread delete?
There is a Delete button above your posts and yours alone, and these only delete what they're attached to - that post. Only a mod or an administrator can delete threads.
